Celebration is in complete order for this time of the year. Things are coming to an end; so like a good ending to a movie we finish on a happy note; announcing a new and better living for 2015.
It is a time for family reunions with lavish meals and unwrapping gifts. Most of us enjoy this season apart from the stress that goes with it. I met stress as I made my way through the crowd in the Mall on Saturday afternoon. I tend to chant: “make stress your friend” or “make pain your friend”, but my chant gets ignored as stress and pain tends to act more like an enemy.
The Christmas story is filled with stress and pain, but the event of Christ coming to Earth is supernaturally interrupted by the great company of Angels (Luke 2:14): “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on Earth peace to those on whom his favour rests” The Praise announces the blessings for those who respond. What is this blessing? PEACE ! The Gospel of Luke sends the arrow of Peace from the birth of Jesus Christ to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The very words of Jesus (Lk 24: 36) when he appears to the disciples after his resurrection is: “Peace be with you”. Jesus could have said a myriad of things, but He knew what we all need, as did the Angels at the birth.
It is not money, it is not more things or expensive presents, it is not a better job or a better friend, but it is Peace. Everybody wants peace, but it is only found in Jesus Christ. No Christ, no peace. Know Christ, know peace. Peace is not a commodity, but a change on the inside that defies all circumstances. The Bible calls Jesus Christ our peace (Eph 2:14). He offers “check mate” to stress and pain and replaces it with His peace.
Believe in Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, forgive all who have hurt you, and receive his Peace. This is the Christmas story.
