We have been spoilt with extraordinary summer weather and we are all hanging out for some rain to prosper our land and gardens. Water is precious, and I quote from Dr Ramon Pink; “clean water is still the number one health issue in our world”. Jesus alludes to himself being the living water (Jn 4) and he spoke of the living water that would flow inside the believer (Jn 7), referring to the Holy Spirit. I personally experienced this living water when I became a Christian; not knowing or understanding how it works, but this living water caused radical changes for good. Although, I soon recognized the event was a start of a relationship between myself and the Living God.
We are like the weather; we can get dry and nasty. To stretch Ramon’s quote a bit further; the number one spiritual health is living water. We have this ability to dry up, shrivel into crusty personalities with lost purpose and just jogging through the motions of life. The weather has to wait for rain, but we don’t lack living water, we just chose to stay away. I call it the desert principle. The people of Israel had the cloud and fire, but still went astray. Are we any different? I think not. There is no big secret to draw from the well of living water. Be faithful to what you know you should do. Do it!
This month Linda and I have served here for 10 years and we are very thankful for all the great people we have met and journeyed with. The most significant part for me has been the privilege of leading us through the Earth quake period. This has been an honour to try and keep the word alive through barren times. My prayer and hope is for us to draw more from the well than previously. This is not about skills, but an attitude that looks for God to break into our personal and corporate drought, with Living Water. Just like the next good downpour we will see things come to life.
If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ” 39 Now this he (Jesus) said about the Spirit,…… Pastor Ed
