Planning Ahead: life after 65 for men (Don Jellyman and Derek Glover)

This is a 6 week course to provide the opportunity to discuss and learn about options for men who are approaching retirement. This can be a pivotal point in a man’s life where he can now do the things he always wanted to do – but the change in pace/lifestyle can be a challenge if we are not prepared for it. We will be looking at the planning for retirement (what to consider before you get there), what to do when you get there, financial planning, health and legal matters. We would also like to explore ways Christian men live out their faith in retirement.

Discovering God by experiencing different ways of prayer (Jocelyn Head)

Throughout the six weeks God will be gifting us through a variety of prayer experiences.  We’ll engage our imaginations with Scripture, participate in breath prayers and silence.  God will gift us through praying in colour, through movement and symbols.  We’ll visit a prayer labyrinth in town.  Each evening we’ll participate in the GIFT, given by God.

We’ll have the chance too to share some of what has been happening for us as we receive the gifts of prayer from God.

Living Intentionally (Sarah Rice)

Where does God call us to announce the Gospel message and to whom? What does it mean to be good news people in our neighbourhoods? What is a missional spirituality? Come and explore these questions through looking at the radical words and life of Jesus. A big part of intentional living is spiritual disciplines—the ones we will look at are: Sabbath, Simplicity, Teachability, Slowing, Confession and Self-Examination, Hospitality and Justice. At the end of this course there will also be a opportunity to stay or visit a Intentional living community in Christchurch.
